A devastating fire broke out at a Starline bus company depot in Mabopane, north of Pretoria, this afternoon, completely destroying more than 20 buses.

The City of Tshwane Emergency Services responded to the blaze after receiving an emergency call around 1 p.m. Firefighters from the Mobile Fire Station were dispatched to the scene at 414 Park Street, where they managed to extinguish the flames.

Emergency Services spokesperson Lindsay Mnguni confirmed that no injuries were reported. “We can confirm that about 23 buses have been damaged by fire after an incident that occurred earlier this afternoon,” Mnguni said.

The cause of the fire remains unclear, and investigations are ongoing.

Starline, a local bus company, has yet to comment on the extent of the damage or potential disruptions to services.

Updates will follow as more information becomes available.
