A 38-year-old suspect, wanted in connection with multiple serious crimes including murder, extortion, and arson, is set to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court today, Tuesday, 17 June 2025. The arrest follows an intensive manhunt after the suspect was linked to violent crimes in the Nyanga area, primarily related to the taxi industry.
The suspect, identified as Mthatha-born Vuyolwethu Tshukela, also known as ‘Yesu’, was apprehended in Welkom, Free State, on Friday, 13 June 2025. Western Cape police had previously issued media appeals for information regarding his whereabouts.
Tshukela currently faces charges tied to murder, extortion, and an ongoing arson investigation—all allegedly committed in Nyanga. Authorities have indicated that further charges may be added as investigations progress.
