The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Northern Region Task Team arrested two suspects for reckless and negligent driving in Kempton Park on Thursday morning.
The operation was initiated after officers received complaints about taxi drivers disregarding traffic rules along Zuurfontein Road. In response, EMPD conducted a sting operation, leading to the arrest of two taxi drivers aged 37 and 41. The suspects were allegedly driving recklessly on the road shoulder, endangering other motorists.
Authorities impounded three taxis as part of the operation. The suspects were handcuffed and detained at the Sebenza Police Station, where a case of reckless and negligent driving was opened. They are expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court soon.
The EMPD has reiterated its commitment to enforcing road safety and cracking down on traffic violations.
