A 27-year-old suspect appeared before the Motetema Magistrate’s Court today in connection with the brutal murder of his 74-year-old father. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning, 03 June 2025, at their residence in Mmakgatle village under the Rakgoadi policing precinct in Sekhukhune District.
The suspect is expected to return to court on 12 June 2025 for a formal bail application.
Police responded to a domestic violence complaint at approximately 10:00 on the day of the incident. Upon arrival, officers discovered the elderly victim lying in the yard with multiple injuries. Emergency medical services personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
Initial investigations revealed that the victim had been assaulted by his son following an altercation. The suspect allegedly fled but was swiftly apprehended by police shortly after the incident. He has since been charged with murder.
The motive behind the killing remains unknown at this stage.
