The suspect later led authorities to a shallow grave where her remains were recovered this week.

According to police, Bongi was last seen on May 29, 2024, after visiting a voting station with a neighbor. She reportedly returned home to cook for her younger brother, the now-suspect, who lived with her. After her disappearance, family members grew suspicious when the brother provided inconsistent explanations about her whereabouts.
The case took a grim turn this past Tuesday when the suspect allegedly confessed to the crime after being confronted by community members over an unrelated issue involving a stolen laptop. He reportedly admitted to killing his sister during an argument and burying her on the family property.
Police Dig for Answers
Forensic teams and investigators spent hours excavating the site where the suspect claimed to have buried Bongi. Provincial police spokesperson Zeph Mkhwanazi confirmed that the suspect had hidden the crime for nearly a year, misleading relatives into believing she had gone missing.
“He confessed that he killed his sister during a quarrel and buried her on the premises,” Mkhwanazi stated. “We are now recovering the remains to confirm his account and determine if anyone else was involved.”
