Police in the Western Cape have launched an investigation after a partially decomposed body was discovered buried under rubble in Sweet Home Farm informal settlement, Philippi on Friday.
The grim discovery has sparked anguish in the Sweet Home Farm informal settlement, where the family of missing man Luthando Lento fears the remains could be his. Lento has been missing for more than two weeks, and relatives say they are desperate for answers.
Community members have rallied together, demanding justice and calling for the farm owner—as well as anyone else allegedly involved—to be held accountable.
“We want the truth. If this is Luthando, those responsible must face the law,” said a family spokesperson, fighting back tears.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the identity of the deceased, pending forensic tests. However, tensions are high as residents accuse the farm owner of suspicious activity.
Police spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk confirmed that an inquest docket has been opened, and investigations are ongoing.
“We urge anyone with information to come forward to assist in the case,” Van Wyk said.
As the community mourns, activists and local leaders are demanding a swift and transparent investigation to ensure justice is served.
