Deadly Clashes Between Locals and Foreign Nationals in Addo Leave 4 Dead, 10 Hospitalized

A violent confrontation between locals and foreign nationals in Addo in the Eastern Cape has resulted in at least four fatalities and left 10 others hospitalized, according to police reports.

The unrest began on Saturday night after a fight broke out at a local tavern, where a group of foreign nationals allegedly killed a South African man. The incident reportedly sparked retaliatory attacks by locals on Sunday, leading to three more deaths—all foreign nationals.

Fearing further violence, a group of foreign nationals, including women and children, sought refuge at the Addo police station overnight. Police have confirmed the clashes and are compiling an official report on the matter.

Foreign Nationals Seek Safety Amid Rising Tensions

An anonymous foreign national described the fear gripping the community.

“We are in Addo, where on Saturday, a South African was allegedly murdered by a group of foreign nationals at a tavern,” the reporter stated. “This led to violence in the area, and many foreign nationals have come to the police station for safety.”

The source explained that after the initial killing, locals retaliated, resulting in three foreign nationals being killed over the weekend.

“We are scared,” the foreign national said. “It is citrus harvesting season, and many of us came here to work. We have no money to return home. We hope the police can protect us.”

Some foreign nationals remain hiding in their homes, too afraid to leave. Police have heightened patrols in the area to prevent further violence.

Authorities on High Alert

Local law enforcement has urged calm while investigations continue. Community leaders are expected to engage in discussions to de-escalate tensions.

As the situation develops, concerns grow over the safety of migrant workers, many of whom rely on seasonal employment in the region.
