In a targeted operation against cross-district drug trafficking, members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) specialised units have again showcased the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and inter-unit collaboration.
Operation Details
On Tuesday morning, 20 May 2025, at approximately 06:00, officers from the Khowa (Elliot) K9 Unit and the Barkly East Mounted Unit conducted a raid at the Nqanqarhu (Maclear) taxi rank, acting on credible intelligence.
During the operation, a 34-year-old male suspect was stopped and searched on the premises. Police discovered 24 small zip-lock bags containing tik (crystal methamphetamine) in his possession.
Arrest and Charges
The suspect was immediately arrested and is expected to appear before the Nqanqarhu Magistrate’s Court on 21 May 2025, facing charges related to drug possession and dealing.
This operation underscores SAPS’s commitment to dismantling drug networks through coordinated efforts and intelligence-driven strategies. Authorities have warned that such operations will continue to target drug trafficking activities across the region.
