A 32-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the death of her three-year-old daughter after allegedly transporting the child’s body in a suitcase from Mzamba to the Mbizana police station on Monday, 19 May 2025.
According to police reports, the suspect left her toddler unattended at home in Mzamba on Sunday, 18 May 2025, while visiting her boyfriend. Upon returning the next day, she claimed to have discovered the child unresponsive near the door. Instead of alerting medical services or authorities immediately, she allegedly placed the body in a suitcase and travelled approximately 30 kilometers by taxi to the Mbizana police station, where she reported the death.
Authorities arrested the woman after she presented the suitcase at the station. She has been charged with culpable homicide, child neglect, and defeating the ends of justice.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Mbizana Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 21 May 2025. Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death are ongoing.
