The government has delivered on its promise to upgrade educational facilities with the official handover of Ribane-Laka Technical School to the Mamelodi community. The state-of-the-art institution focuses on automotive and electronic disciplines, aiming to equip learners with practical skills for the modern economy.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for our kids to explore new fields beyond the basic syllabus,” said a community member, while emphasizing the need for tight security to protect school resources.
The school, the first in the area to offer advanced science and technical training, is part of the government’s broader effort to promote the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). Since 2016, 36 such specialized schools have been launched nationwide.
“We are taking 4IR to another level,” said an official. “This isn’t just about employment—it’s about creating job creators.” The curriculum includes hands-on training to improve learners’ employability and entrepreneurial skills.
Mamelodi, a rapidly growing township, faces increasing demand for economic opportunities. The school aims to address this by nurturing future leaders and artisans.
However, its success hinges on community support. This school can reduce inequality and empower families—but only if the community protects it.
The newly built institution replaces the original 1924 school, marking a significant step toward modernizing education in the province.
