Motorists using the R55 route, especially near Olivenhoutbosch, are cautioned by Gauteng Police to avoid picking up hitchhikers.

This warning follows an incident that occurred on Sunday evening, 2017-03-19 at around 22:00 after a man in his forties was allegedly robbed off his white Mercedes Benz C- Class, after picking up two females who pretended to be stranded.

The victim regained consciousness the following day at Akasia hospital and he could only remember picking up two females the previous night.

Police appeal to motorists to be vigilant and avoid giving lifts to strangers.

A case of carjacking has been opened at Olivenhoubosch SAPS for further investigation.
