Several motorists experiencing mechanical issues with their vehicles have been robbed of their valuables on the R102 in Mt. Edgecombe – KZN in recent weeks.
A member of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) was on patrol on the south bound lane this morning (Tuesday) and noticed four (4) males attacking two (2) individuals. The Reaction Officer stopped to assist and a lengthy foot chase that led into a sugar cane plantation ensued. The Officer requested additional backup and aerial support during the pursuit. The RUSA R44 helicopter lifted minutes later and conducted an extensive search of the area, but the suspect managed to evade arrest.
It was established that a female experienced mechanical failure with her blue Peugeot 206. She contacted her son who arrived shortly thereafter to assist her. They were standing on the side of the road while her car was being loaded onto a tow truck when four (4) suspects accosted them. They robbed them of two (2) Samsung cellphones. The suspects confronted the tow truck operator, but fled when the RUSA Member stopped to assist.
The suspects are believed to be linked to several cases.
