Two brothers arrested with rifles during Operation Vala Umgodi

Police officers who are members of Operation Vala Umgodi have conducted an intelligence-driven operation which resulted in the arrest two brothers after they were found in possession of rifles and ammunition at their home at Embondwane-Waaihoek area in Ezakheni in the early hours of Thursday morning, 24 April 2025.

The Operation Vala Umgodi officers operationalised intelligence about the two brothers who were suspected of being in possession of firearms and also alleged to be involved in taxi-related murders which were taking place at Embondwane-Waaihoek and the surrounding areas. The suspects were found at their home and upon searching their rooms, the 49-year-old suspect was found in possession of an AK47 assault rifle and two magazines with 70 rounds of ammunition. His 44-year-old brother was also found in possession of an R4 rifle with 35 rounds of ammunition.

The two brothers were immediately arrested for being in an illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Investigations are underway to establish any linkages between the recovered firearms and murder cases which were reported in the area as well as other parts of the province. The suspects are expected to appear in the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 25 April 2025.
