When it comes to creating superheroes, the best stories often start at home.
That’s exactly how Olila Origins, the new African kid superhero comic, was born—from the imagination of a father-son duo, Alex and his 6-year-old son Oli.
Olila Rising
What began as playful storytelling between a father and a son has evolved into a professionally crafted comic book–Olila Origins–that’s capturing the hearts of young readers across the continent.
Alexander and Olila Lielacher first dreamed up Olila during one of their creative bonding sessions, spinning tales of adventure, courage, and the kind of superpowers kids wish they had.
Their shared vision was simple: to create a superhero that African kids could see themselves in, someone who reflected their culture, experiences, and dreams.
“Oli had all these cool ideas about what kind of superhero he wanted to read about,” Alex recalls. “So we decided, why not make one ourselves? It started as just a fun project between us, but the more we built the story, the more we realized we had something special.”
If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.
To bring Olila to life, Alex and Oli teamed up with professional author Mutendei Nabutete, who helped shape their ideas into a compelling narrative. Mutendei’s storytelling expertise added depth and structure, transforming the father-son sketches and plotlines into a rich, engaging story that could stand alongside any mainstream comic.
But a superhero is only as vivid as the world they inhabit, and that’s where comic book artist and illustrator Daniel Muli stepped in.
Daniel’s beautiful artwork breathes life into Olila’s universe, blending vibrant African landscapes with action-packed scenes that leap off the page. His illustrations capture not just the essence of the characters but the heartbeat of the culture they represent.
The Story Unfolds
Olila Origins–the first issue of the Olila Comics series–follows the journey of Olila and his sister Wughanga as they discover their powers and face challenges that test their courage and values.
It’s a story about family, resilience, and the belief that even the smallest heroes can make the biggest difference.
The comic isn’t just entertainment; it’s a cultural milestone.
In a world where representation matters, Olila offers African kids a hero who looks like them, speaks like them, and comes from a world they recognize.
Olila Origins will be available soon on GlobalComix as a digital comic, making it accessible to young readers everywhere.
For Alex and Oli, it’s more than just a comic book—it’s a testament to the power of storytelling, imagination, and the special bond between a parent and child.
