The High Court of South Africa, Eastern Cape Division, Gqeberha, sentenced 51-year-old Shayieda Dollie to 10 years for conspiracy to commit murder and 25 years for the murder of her 20-year-old son, Moegamat Thaafir Dollie.
The murder, committed on 28 October 2024, was driven by Dollie’s intent to claim a R2 million life insurance payout.
Frustrated by her son’s struggles with drug addiction and disruptive behavior, Dollie sought advice and was allegedly encouraged to seek a “permanent solution.”
She conspired with two individuals, “Shaun” and “Oompie,” hiring hitmen from Johannesburg to carry out the killing. The initial R80,000 payment for the hit increased to R380,000 due to delays.
Under the guise of a job interview she secured for him, Dollie lured her son to his killers, who later executed the crime.
The insurance payout was intended to cover the hitmen’s fees. “Shaun” and “Oompie” remain at large.
During sentencing, senior state advocate Ismat Cerfontein emphasized the brutality of a mother orchestrating her son’s murder for financial gain, calling it a crime of exceptional cruelty.
The court reinforced that such crimes, especially involving family, will face severe legal consequences.
