MAMA Power Unites at SHARE Conference 2024

The annual SHARE Conference, organized by MAMAS Alliance, is back in the Western Cape this year, bringing together 36 NGOs from across South Africa under the uplifting theme of “Make Them Fly.” Taking place in the Western Cape from the 4th to the 8th of November 2024, the conference remains a key platform for MAMAS Alliance’s network of dedicated NGOs, offering unique opportunities for knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and innovation. With a focus on empowering vulnerable children and communities, this year’s event promises to be as impactful as ever, building on the successes of previous years.

As part of MAMAS Alliance’s broader mission, the SHARE Conference 2024 is designed to foster growth and innovation across all participating NGOs. These organizations, which collectively care for over 70,000 children throughout South Africa, provide critical support in areas such as education, healthcare, nutrition, and community development. MAMAS Alliance is proud to work alongside 36 NGOs, creating a unified network that supports children and their families with a diverse range of life-changing programs.

The theme for this year’s conference, “Make Them Fly,”captures the essence of what MAMAS Alliance strives for: giving NGOs the tools and resources they need to elevate their work to new heights, ensuring that every child they support can reach their full potential. By focusing on sustainable and innovative solutions, the conference aims to equip NGOs with fresh insights and strategies to empower the communities they serve.

Highlights of SHARE 2024: Masterclasses, Workshops, and Site Visits

This year’s conference will feature a series of masterclasses, workshops, and interactive sessions designed to provide participants with hands-on learning experiences. Facilitated by both internal and external experts, these sessions will focus on practical strategies for addressing the most pressing issues faced by the NGOs, from early childhood development and youth empowerment to sustainable community practices and Governance. Through these workshops, NGOs will have the opportunity to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and learn from each other’s successes and challenges.

A highlight of SHARE 2024 is the interactive site visits to our Western Cape NGOs. These visits provide an invaluable opportunity for attendees to experience the day-to-day operations of organizations that excel in diverse areas of community support and development. Participants will gain firsthand insight into the successes, challenges, and innovations that drive these NGOs forward. The site visits will include the following organizations:

Breede Valley Association of and for Persons with Disabilities (BVAPD): BVAPD provides therapeutic, social, and community development services to persons with disabilities, striving to create an inclusive society with equal opportunities for all.
Elim Home: Elim Home cares for fifty children with severe and profound intellectual and physical disabilities. The organization also operates two daycare centers in Gansbaai and Bredasdorp, serving 24 and 15 clients, respectively.
Elkana Childcare: Specializing in child protection and development, Elkana works to change children’s stories through various programs and interventions, ensuring their basic needs are met.
Etafeni: Situated in Nyanga, Etafeni empowers children, youth, and adults through education, social welfare, health, skills development, and outreach programs, with a focus on uplifting the community.
James House: James House offers a range of programs and services designed to develop children socially and emotionally, enabling them to thrive academically while also supporting family strengthening initiatives.
Ubuntu4All: Known for its youth gang intervention and prevention programs, Ubuntu4All provides after-school care, substance abuse counseling, sports programs, entrepreneurial training, and urban farming, fostering safer, healthier, and more sustainable communities.

These site visits are an important aspect of the SHARE Conference, allowing participants to witness firsthand the transformative work being done in the Western Cape and explore how different strategies and approaches can be applied across their own communities.

Yumna Toefy, Director of MAMAS Alliance CSI, emphasizes the importance of the event: “The SHARE Conference is more than just a gathering; it’s a space for MAMAS to share their experiences, challenges, and successes with one another. It’s about creating opportunities for growth, not only for the NGOs themselves but also for the communities they serve. The theme ‘Make Them Fly’ is about propelling our Youth to new heights to reach their full potential and break their cycle of poverty.

By coming together at the SHARE Conference, the NGOs within MAMAS Alliance will continue to strengthen their collective efforts to break the cycle of poverty and create brighter futures for South Africa’s most vulnerable children. The knowledge and connections made during this week will not only inspire the MAMAS NGOs to take their work to the next level but will also leave a lasting impact on the communities they serve.
