SAPS members continued with their efforts to prevent the proliferation of illicit drugs and illegal firearms. Crime prevention operations yielded positive results in Maletswai.
On Thursday afternoon, 3 October 2024, members from the K9 unit were busy with crime prevention patrols, and they received intelligence information about males who were dealing in dagga at a certain house in Block H in the Maletswai township.
The members responded and in possession of a search warrant, they searched the house.
Two black plastic bags were found on the couch with loose dagga known as “Swazi”, and 63 ziplock parcels containing dagga as well as cash.
After searching the house, Sgt Lange and his explosive dog “Berry” searched the Toyota double cab bakkie that was parked outside.
Within minutes, our four-legged officer, “Berry” reacted positively and a 9mm Star pistol with live rounds was found underneath the driver’s seat of the vehicle.
The two suspects aged 32 and 45 were arrested. Police seized dagga, firearm and a vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the suspects were originally from KwaZulu-Natal.
The suspects will appear before the Maletswai magistrate court on Monday, 7 October 2024 on charges ranging from the Contravention of the Firearms Control Act to dealing in illicit drugs.
The Joe Gqabi District Commissioner Major General Lindelwa Vellem applauded members on their swift reaction. “Your operational acumen and quick response were the difference in this success”
