75-year-old shot during violent hijacking in New Germany

A 75-year-old man was in a serious condition yesterday morning after an apparent hijacking on Pioneer Road in New Germany, KwaZulu-Natal.

ER24 paramedics were dispatched to the scene at approximately 09h12 after reports were received of a man that had been shot numerous times.

Upon arrival, paramedics found a man lying in the road. Members of the community, along with security members, were busy tending to the patient.

Paramedics quickly assessed the man and found that he had sustained gunshot wounds to his ankle, leg and abdomen and was in a critical condition.

Advanced life support interventions and treatment were immediately initiated.

Once treated, the man was transported to Hillcrest Hospital for urgent treatment.

Local authorities were on the scene to conduct an investigation into the shooting.
