On Sunday, December 11, Basie and Hester Badenhorst became victims of yet another horrific farm attack. The farm is situated in Doornbult, Makwassi area, North West Province.
Four armed suspects entered the Badenhorst home through an open door. Basie saw the four attackers in the hallway and they immediately shot him in the upper leg. The suspects tied him and his wife Hester up and demanded money. The suspects specifically referred to money from Hester’s egg selling business. The suspects ransacked the house and fled with money, jewelry, and a firearm.
The farming community and police were notified and immediately responded to the call for assistance. The farming community spotted the suspects’ vehicle in Makwassie Road, outside Wolmaransstad and the quick and reactive action helped to detain three of the attackers. There are reports that the one suspect managed to escape. The money and jewelry were recovered but the firearm is still missing.
Basie was transferred to the local hospital and is in a stable condition.
An investigation continues.
