Is there no place where one can shop in safety? Several men targeted a couple who went shopping at a mall in Bassonia, South of Johannesburg yesterday. What would have been an ordinary occurrence, turned into a nightmare for this couple when they were not only robbed but shot by the dodgy suspects?
The victim shared her traumatic experience and here is her story.
“Ladies, please be aware when going to Bassonia Woolworths. I was there yesterday at about 9.30-9.50 am. I was in the housewares area of the store looking at Christmas gifts. A well-dressed man with a shopping trolley started a conversation about Black Friday sales and Christmas etc.
I am always polite and friendly. After a few minutes, I left and still said goodbye to him. I noticed he was on his phone. I went to the tills to pay. He followed soon thereafter. I also noticed a few men (well dressed) in the queue behind me. There was a guy on a hover board causing attention.
I went to my car right at the entrance. Car guard who seemed well educated and well spoken was VERY helpful. He scored 20 bucks. I left and headed home to Randhart. I drove in the gate and a beige and black mini cooper drove in and blocked the gate. 4 guys (well dressed) got out. Two came to my car. Removed my diamond rings, watch, and handbag. All with my engine running and music playing. They could not remove my necklace.
Then bang! They shot my husband AFTER taking his watch and phone. Then they were gone.
My husband is thankfully OK. He is in hospital for observation. We are traumatized and so are all my staff who witnessed it.”
