KwaZulu-Natal police seize 118 firearms

KwaZulu-Natal acting provincial police commissioner Maj-Gen Bheki Langa has lauded KwaZulu-Natal police officers for their efforts to rid the province of illegal firearms.

“We will continue to root-out the proliferation of illegal firearms in the province to make it a safer place for its citizens and prevent serious and violent crimes,” he said on Saturday.

Police in KwaZulu-Natal confiscated 118 illegal firearms between October 1 and 31, and arrested more than 130 people for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The operations were conducted in the province by different policing clusters, including eThekwini, UThukela, Umgungundlovu, Umkhanyakude, and Ilembe. The recovered firearms included pistols, revolvers, rifles, and homemade firearms, and an assortment of 868 rounds of ammunition. The accused had appeared in different magistrate’s courts in the province.
