Elderly woman murdered in Golf Park Naboomspruit

A 32-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Ventersdorp Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 1 November 2016 for an alleged murder.

The suspect’s appearance in court emanates from his arrest on Sunday, 30 October 2016 in Hartbeesfontein. According to information, three suspects entered Witrantjiesfontein farm near Ventersdorp in the morning where they allegedly attacked a 55-year-old woman with stones and garden fork. The victim who was staying alone in a rented piece of land, was apparently feeding cattle and sheep when the incident occurred.

The victim’s body was later found by the farm owner who alerted police who launched an intensive search through various units including Air wing. It was during the search that the victim’s Isuzu bakkie was spotted in Hartbeesfontein. Upon seeing the police, the suspects abandoned the bakkie and fled on foot. With assistance of the community, one of them was arrested. Police are still on the look out of the two suspects.

The motive of the incident is unknown at this stage as nothing else was taken from her house. The suspect is alleged to be the former employee at the farm and be from Tshing township in Ventersdorp.
