A South African Revenue Service (SARS) customs official and a drug sniffer dog intercepted 7.5kg of cocaine worth about R2.1 million hidden in hair treatment bottles at a courier company outlet at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, SARS said on Sunday.
The sniffer dog identified a consignment of six bottles of “anti-frizz hair treatment” from Sao Paolo in Brazil, destined for Cape Town. Tests confirmed the bottles contained liquid cocaine with a value of R2,157,750.
The narcotics were seized and handed over to the South African Police Service for further investigation, SARS said in a statement.
