A student from the University of the Witwatersrand and #FeesMustFall protest leader is expected to continue his application for bail in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Mcebo Dlamini was arrested on Sunday and faces charges of public violence‚ possession of dangerous weapons‚ theft and assault.
Dlamini, 32, was arrested in Parktown after police swooped on his residence at the University of the Witwatersrand in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The former Student Representative Council leader appeared in court on Monday, where his bail application was postponed to allow for his address to be verified.
Prosecutor Steven Rubin said the accused only provided an alternative address on Monday morning and it needed to be verified.
Mongezi Ntanga, for Dlamini, had requested that his client be released immediately so that he can write his exams on Tuesday. However, the magistrate said because Dlamini hasn’t been attending classes, he could arrange with the university for another date.
