One person was shot dead and another sustained multiple gunshot wounds in a “bizarre” shooting incident in Copesville, Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal paramedics said on Saturday.
“Shortly after 6am paramedics from ER24 arrived on a small road in Copesville where they found two vehicles standing close to each other,” ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak said.
“A man was found near one of the vehicles with approximately five gunshot wounds in his chest, back, and arms. Another person was found with multiple gunshot wounds near the other vehicle. Sadly, there was nothing that paramedics could do for him and he was declared dead on the scene,” he said.
The critically wounded man was treated on the scene and rushed to a nearby hospital for further care.
“The patient explained to paramedics that the man stopped in front of him and opened fire. Apparently a struggle broke out and the other person was also shot. However, the events will be investigated by the police that attended the scene,” Vermaak said.
