At 04:16 the Drift Reaction control centre received a panic alarm signal from one of the guards on duty in Ruimsig, Roodepoort.
The Iron Fist Squad as well as Ruimsig Tactical Units were dispatched. While the teams were still on their way the control manager called the guard on duty.
He reported that the patrolling guard noticed two figures at a unit and heard glass breaking. He sneaked closer to have a look and saw the two suspects packing the broken glass on the piece of grass in front of the unit.
He shouted at them and they ran towards the perimeter electric fence where they jumped into the veld behind the complex.
The teams were informed and decided to split up. The Iron Fist Squad went to the veld and the tactical units went into the complex to search from the inside. The two had disappeared.
On further inspection it was found that the two tried to force the security door open and when they did not succeed, they then removed the putty of one window which caused the window to break.
In their haste to flee they left their sticks behind.
The sticks were used to breach the electric fence when they entered the complex. The residents were not home and nothing was stolen from the unit.
