A 30-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly strangling his younger brother to death, North West police said on Monday.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Pelonomi Makau said a 12-year-old boy was found dead with no visible injuries in an abandoned house near his school in Masutlhe village outside Mahikeng on August 17.
He was still in his school uniform when hawkers discovered his body.
Makau said a post-mortem indicated that the boy had been strangled.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the last person to be seen with the deceased was his older brother. Upon being questioned by the police, the deceased’s brother confirmed and admitted to having strangled his younger brother.”
The elder brother was arrested on Friday, and was expected to appear in the Molopo Magistrate’s Court in Mmabatho on Monday.
The motive for the killing is still unknown.
