Riversdale has a population of approximately 16176 people. The majority of the population is 75.2 percent colored Afrikaans speaking people and 15.3 percent white Afrikaans speakers. In 2011 Riversdale had a black population of 8.9 percent.
Vermaaklikheid is a settlement in Riversdale, on South Africa’s Garden Route in the Western Cape and home to an olive oil farm which presses its own olive oil.
Despite the size of the tiny town, Vermaaklikheid has a grim history dating back to September 13, 1954. Farmer Roedolf Jacobus Warnick, born on December 1, 1982, was found dead on what was then referred to as the “farm Vermaaklikheid” on September 13, 1954. According to public records, he died through strangulation and the court inquest ruled his death as a suicide.
