Four in court for Tokai forest murder

African News Agency

Four men are expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, in connection with the murder, rape and robbery of 16-year-old Tokai teen Franziska Blöchliger.

The teenager was jogging in the Tokai forest on March 7 when she was attacked and killed.

During their last court appearance the case against Jerome Moses, Daniel Easter, and two others was postponed to wait for the compilation of cellphone evidence.

The two as yet unnamed accused are facing charges of rape and murder.

Moses, along with accused number four, Easter, were granted bail as they can only be linked to Blöchliger’s stolen cellphone. Both of their bail was extended.

The court was also made aware that the legal representation for accused number two, Jerome Moses, would now be handled by Attorney Kevin Pietersen.

Accused number one is the only who has, thus far, it is alleged been positively linked through DNA results to Blöchliger’s rape in March.

Any bail application by accused number three would have been denied and was thus abandoned in the early stages of the case as he had failed to appear in court on a separate, previous matter.

Blöchliger was found dead in Tokai forest in March following a late afternoon jog. Further investigations and post-mortem results found that Blöchliger had been raped, had sand in her throat at the time of her death, and had ligature marks around her neck.

The matter was postponed until July 28.
