It is with grave concern to be notified of an attack on two Durbanville SAPS members who were shot at while reacting to a crime scene.
The members, Sgt Segels and Sgt Fox, were conducting street patrols in Fisantekraal on Tuesday, 26 July 2016 at around 19h30 when they were informed of a business robbery in progress at a local shop.
Upon arrival at the shop they were confronted by fleeing suspects who starting shooting at the members – injuring Sgt Fox, who is currently receiving medical attention in Durbanville Medi-Clinic.
We are relieved to hear that Sgt Fox is reported to be in a stable condition and he has been talking to his family.
It is reassuring to know that all SAPS standard operating procedures are being followed and the necessary support is provided to our members by our Cluster Commander Genl Manci , Durbanville Station Commander, Col Cupido as well as the SAPS Employment Health and Wellness members.
The CPF also acknowledges our Community Victim Support volunteers for their assistance and guidance to the shift members who are understandably shaken by the events.
The CPF condemns the attacks on police members and calls on all members of the public to work with law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime and the creation of safer communities.
