Robber sentenced to 20 years for Chatsworth robbery

Khulekani Mzobe (40) will spend 20 years in prison for business robbery he committed last year.

The accused was found guilty and convicted by the Durban Regional Court on 28 June 2016 after well prepared evidence was delivered at court.

On 27 July 2015 at about 8:30, the victim was at the shop in Chatsworth area when she was approached by the accused at gunpoint.

The accused threatened the victim and took an undisclosed amount of cash before he fled the scene on foot. A case of business robbery was opened at Chatsworth police station for further investigation.

Through investigation, the accused was arrested in August 2015 and was charged accordingly.

The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner Bhekinkosi Langa commended the police for their sterling work that led to the arrest of the accused after he fled the scene. “Our detectives worked hard in tracing the accused and eventually he was arrested. I also praise the justice system for making sure that the perpetrators are sent to jail with the evidence at their disposal”, he said.
