Police in conjunction with the security guards apprehended three suspects between the ages of 41 to 45 for business robbery at Oriental Plaza in Fordsburg on 3 May 2021, at 10:00. Two of the suspects are security guards working at Oriental Plaza.

A 32-year-old female employee was collecting money at Pay Stations situated at the entrances of the shopping centre. She was guarded by a security guard who turned out to be one of the suspects.

When collecting money to the last pay station she was confronted by a suspect who pointed her with a firearm and demanded money. The security guard that was with her told her to surrender the money which was loaded into the basket.

The suspect then pepper sprayed her and forced her to lie down. He took an undisclosed amount of money before he fled the scene.

She screamed for help and the security guards came to her rescue. One suspect was apprehended outside the shopping centre at corner Albertina Sisulu and High Road. All the money, pepper spray and firearm was recovered.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect colluded with two security guards.

Investigation is underway and suspects will appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrate Court.

Johannesburg Central Station Commander, Brigadier Perumal commended good working relationship between the police and the security guards.
