Mitchells Plain police remain committed to remove unlicensed firearms and ammunition from the streets. The members followed up on information this morning about firearms at a house in Nile Way, Portland, Mitchells Plain. Upon their arrival at the address, they found a man with two backpacks in his possession. A search was conducted and four firearms with ammunition, two laptops with accessories and other items were confiscated. The suspect, a 28-year-old man was arrested.
In another incident on 28 January 2021, Mitchells Plain police acted on information about firearms at another address in Wendy Crescent, Tafelsig. Upon their arrival at the house, police searched a wendy house in the yard and found two firearms and 79 rounds of ammunition. Two suspects aged 29 and 32 were arrested.
The three suspects are due to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court once they have been charged.
The SAPS management commended the members for participating in efforts to rid the communities of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
