Pretoria – Foreign nationals attacked the Marabastad office of the department of home affairs in central Pretoria on Friday.
Passing vehicles were also pelted with stones.
The troublemakers ran away when members of the metro and national arrived, but remained in the vicinity. At some point, police fired rubber bullets to disperse them.
An eyewitness, who asked not be named, said a group of Somalians armed with stones arrived at home affairs office in Marabastad earlier in the afternoon.
“They stoned two passing vehicles and threw stones in the home affairs premises.”
It was not clear why they were angry.
Five people were apparently arrested for public violence, but confirmation from the police could not be obtained immediately…
