A family of white South Africans — who sought refugee protection in Canada, claiming fear of rape and violence against whites by the black majority in their homeland — have won the Federal Court’s support to continue their asylum claim.
The claim of Charl and Naira Nel will now be sent back for a new determination by the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) after they argued their claims of gender-based fear against women and race-based fear against whites were mishandled.
