Ashwin Peters (21), Jimmy Adams (27) and Malachi Solomons (43), made a brief appearance at Kimberley Magistrate Court on Friday for illegal possession and transporting crayfish.
The suspects were arrested on Wednesday, 5 August 2020, by the Francis Baard Tracing Team. The members spotted a suspicious vehicle on the N12 road on the way to Warrenton.
The vehicle was cornered at a filling station and during the search the members discovered a load of crayfish tails inside a number of cooler boxes.
The suspects could not provide necessary permit and as a result, they were immediately arrested. About 6445 crayfish tails valued at around R644 500 have since been seized.
The three suspects were granted R5 000-00 bail each and the case is postponed to 28 September 2020 pending further investigations.
