Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma has welcomed the arrest of four suspects, aged between 25 and 42 on the evening of Sunday, 3 May 2020 at Piet Retief for possession of dagga worth about R101 000, in street value.
According to the report, police received information about people who were trafficking drugs between Pongola and Piet Retief. They then followed up on the information and noticed a silver Toyota Double Cab bakkie with four occupants, which is the description of the vehicle given. Upon stopping the bakkie, police conducted a thorough search in it and found bags full of dagga.
The four suspects, Bongiwe Sithole, 25, Zothini Thusin, 42, Lethiwe Ngobese, 41 as well as Senzo Mngoma aged 34, appeared at the Mkhondo Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 5 May 2020, facing charges of possession of dagga. They were all remanded in custody and their case was postponed to 07 May 2020, for bail application.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma has applauded law enforcement officers for their resilience and vigilance which resulted in the arrest of the four suspects. The General has also sent out a strong warning to those who think they can take chances and traffic drugs. All Law Enforcement Agencies are working around the clock to eliminate and prevent all criminal activities.
