A Constable from De Deur SAPS was fatally wounded on the morning of 1 August 2019, when he attempted to arrest a suspected drug dealer.
At approximately 10:00, six crime prevention members from De Deur were tracing suspects dealing in drugs at Weilers Farm (Majazana). Two suspects were spotted and they ran into a passageway. Three members followed them and the suspects ran in different directions.
One member followed one suspect and they ended up at a shack. During a confrontation, the member was fatally stabbed and the suspect took his service pistol. Two other members who were following behind heard a shot being fired and immediately saw a suspect carrying a firearm. They fired a shot and the suspect ran away. He jumped several houses until he fell.
It was then established that he had a bullet wound on his upper stomach. A knife was found in his possession. It was established the suspect hid the officer’s firearm in a toilet and the firearm was later found.
IPID was also summoned to the scene.
