On 11 December 2018, the Carnarvon Regional Court sentenced Ferdinand Pieter Monsigner (20) to life imprisonment for raping his sister. Monsigner was found guilty on two counts of rape which he committed on June 2017.

The investigating officer, Sergeant Fritz was commended for his meticulous investigation and the testimony he presented as the state witness. During her verdict the Magistrate said, “Rape is a gruesome act of violence which deprives its victims humanity, leaving them wondering if they worth of being human beings”.

The accused was sentenced to life imprisonment on both counts. The sentence will send a stern message to perpetrators and also indicate that members of the South African Police Service are committed to fighting sexual offences crimes.
