The luck of thirteen suspects who intended to rob a Philippi East church ran out when SAPS members foiled their plans. Reacting on a tip off, members of POPS conducted an observation this afternoon while church members transported the congregation’s cash.
Upon the arrival of the suspects, they spotted the police and opened fire at the officers. Following an exchange of gunshots, one suspect was wounded.
A total of 13 suspects were arrested by POPS and Flying Squad members and three unlicensed firearms were seized.
Their vehicle, which was discovered to be hijacked, was also confiscated. Once charged, the suspects are expected to make a court appearance.
