Zeal and continuous efforts made by members of the Provincial Hijacking Team is closing the net on house robberies and hijackings groupings operating in the Nyanga Cluster.
Three suspects were also apprehended for the possession of stolen property in Browns Farm. The members together with the assistance of the Provincial Task Team were busy following up on the outstanding suspects linked to those that were arrested with stolen fridges and firearm and ammunition which were hijacked from a truck in Bishop Lavis.
While standing at the address in Browns Farm the members saw a silver Toyota Avanza with no registration number stopping not far from them and suddenly the occupants came out running leaving the vehicle in motion which drove into a wall. The chase ensued and one suspect was caught on top of a roof and one was found close by. Inside the Avanza members recovered three flat screens, three remote controls, a speaker, four bags including a sling bag, passport and some documents.
While they were busy with the arrest at the station two men came and identified themselves as the owner and driver, the driver claimed he was hijacked by the suspects while driving in Gugulethu and the suspects instructed him to drive to Ottery area and went to a certain house and came out with the recovered items.
This is a second incident where Avanza drivers claim to have been hired by suspects to take them to an area where they commit house robberies. A 38 year old suspect was also arrested today on the house robbery incident that took place in Ndibela Street in Browns Farm.
The driver also claimed he was hired by the suspects of another area to transport them and their loot into and from Browns Farm. All these claims will form part of the investigation.
Once charged the four suspects will appear in the Athlone Magistrate court for housebreaking and theft as well as in Bishop Lavis for truck hijacking, the 38 year old one will also appear in Athlone Magistrate Court for house robbery and possession of police uniform.
The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen KE Jula has praised the commander and his team for their valued support and contributions they continue to make to deal with serious crimes in Nyanga.
