Prisoners at Barberton’s jail are on a hunger strike. Several of them are currently serving life ve sentences.
They demand that the minister of correctional services pay attention to parole conditions.
Recent statistics have shown that someone receiving parole are within months back in prison.
In the meantime, another Correctional Officer has been arrested in Kroonstad for possession of drugs and an unlicensed firearm. Earlier, a member of the Theunissen area was arrested with his wife for stock theft.
