Father and son arrested on firearm charges, Madibogo

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane commended the police in Madibogo for their prompt response that led to the arrest of a son and his father for firearm related offences.

The police were on patrol as part of Safer Festive Season operations at about 16:15 on Sunday, 24 December 2017, when they received information about a man who was roaming around and showing off that he possesses a firearm at Madibogo railway station.

The police followed up the information and ultimately ambushed the suspect who at that time was going out of the local tavern at Madibogo station. The police searched the suspect (27) and found him in possession of a .38 special revolver. The suspect was arrested for illegal possession of firearm after he informed the police that the firearm belonged to his father.

Further investigation into the matter led to the arrest of the suspect’s father (61) for negligent loss of firearm. The pair is expected to appear in the Atamelang Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 27 December 2017.

Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane expressed her appreciation about the arrests. She said further that the police will not hesitate to deal with anyone who fails to comply with the Firearms Control Act, 2000.
