A 58-year-old widow of the Free State was attacked on her farm near Harrismith, tortured and raped on Sunday, October 4, 2015, in the afternoon.

Sgt. Mmako Mophiring, provincial police spokesperson, said on Monday to Maroela Media the attack took place between 16:00 and 17:00.

“Two unknown men were waiting for the woman at her house. They attacked her when she returned from Bethlehem,” said Mophiring.

The woman, who is living alone at the farm, was forced into the house by the suspects where they tied her with clothing.

“They stabbed her several times with a knife and burned her with a hot iron and demanded money. She told them she did not have much money, only what she had on her.”

The men raped her before fleeing with the woman’s white Mahindra bakkie. They took the money which she had on her and stole a cell phone.

She managed to untie herself after the attack and called for help.

Chris Botha of Netcare 911, said the woman suffered serious injuries and were treated for stab- and burn wounds. “She was taken to a private hospital in Ladysmith for further treatment,” Botha said to Maroela Media.

Mophiring said no one has been arrested in connection with the incident.
