Vaalwater farmer shot twice in the face during farm attack

Mr. Ian van Druten was attacked between 03:00 and 04:00 on April 24, 2015 on his farm, neighbouring Driehoek Voere, Vaalwater.

At least 3 villains attacked Ian when he went to start the tobacco kilns. He was shot twice in the face. A projectile went through his cheek and apparently the second one stuck in his vertebrae.

Ian screamed and his wife heard it. She managed to close the kitchen door and locked her children to safety. While she was in the kitchen, two shots were fired at her. The projectiles hit the wall at the door.

Mrs. Van Druten contacted the farmers in the area. News of the attack spread like wildfire and help was on the way immediately. Roads were dominated and the scene was cordoned off extremely well.

Die Spoorsnyers were contacted for assistance. For various reasons, unfortunately, no successful arrests were made.

Ian is currently in Unitas Hospital and it is not going well with him.

Ian’s wife and children are extremely traumatized due to the horrific attack.

Thanks to the farmers in the area for fast action, as well as the SAPS. Thanks to AO Gielie (Gerhard) Herbs and Sergeant Piet Schoeman of the Dog Unit for their selfless service. A huge thanks to Captain Van den Berg of the SAPS Dog Unit, Nylstroom, for all her arrangements.

Thanks to Mr. Nantes Kelder of AfriForum for his help with the investigation and for his assistance at the hospital.

During the investigation farmers of the area stopped a man on a bicycle. During the interrogation and search that followed, the farmers found a .357 revolver.

The revolver was in a plastic bag fixed to the bicycle.

Die Spoorsnyers were able to assist in tracing the rightful owner. The revolver was “lost” the week before.

Congratulations to the farmers with this fund. These types of weapons claim people’s lives.
