Police manhandling ex-Mayor of Lichtenburg

Two police officials were involved in the manhandling of Mr Eugene Nel, an ex-Mayor of Lichtenburg, and physically threw him into a police vehicle.

The male pushed him around while the female intimidated the scene with an exposed pistol, even pointing it at mr Nel while he was being forced into the vehicle.

The fracas started when three young men were driving recklessly through the shopping centre’s parking area, and eventually colliding with a parked vehicle.

Mr Nel and other bystanders requested the police officials to take the driver for an alcohol test.

The officials refused and shouted at mr Nel that he must not tell them how to do their work.

A young man was recording the incident and the policeman slapped him. When mr Nel objected to that, he was told that he was being arrested for interfering with their work.

Mr Nel was then manhandled by the policeman and eventually stripped down to only his shorts.

All the while, the police woman was walking around with her pistol in the hand.

An eye-witness, mrs Myburgh, who went to the police station was told that she had nothing to do with the incident, even though she was an eye-witness.

Col. Sabata Mokgwabone, police spokesman for North-West, said that charges of assault of a police offices, and defeating the ends of justice was brought against mr Nel and that they were not aware of any complaints against the policemen on the scene.
