Father finds his 15-year-old daughter’s body in the garage

A 55-year-old woman was attacked and killed at a farm near Ventersdorp, North West police said on Monday.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Pelonomi Makau said three men entered Witrantjiesfontein farm near Ventersdorp on Sunday morning.

They allegedly attacked the woman with stones and a garden fork. The woman, who was staying alone on a rented piece of land, was apparently feeding cattle and sheep when she was attacked.

Her body was later found by the farm owner who alerted police and an intensive search through various units, including air wing, was launched.

“It was during the search that the victim’s Isuzu bakkie was spotted in Hartbeesfontein. Upon seeing the police, the suspects abandoned the bakkie and fled on foot. With assistance of the community, one of them was arrested. Police are still on the look out of the two suspects. The motive of the incident is unknown at this stage as nothing else was taken from her house. The suspect is alleged to be the former employee at the farm and be from Tshing township in Ventersdorp,” she said.

The arrested man was expected to appear in the Ventersdorp Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, facing a charge of murder.
