Four Free State farmers were arrested in Parys after two farm attackers were killed.

A reliable source told Maroela Media an elderly man was attacked on Wednesday afternoon on his farm outside Parys. The farmer was apparently hit on the head with a gun and suffered cuts. In a struggle the farmer managed to press a panic button after which the attackers fled empty-handed.

Regional security were notified shortly after the incident. The suspects allegedly ran through a cornfield in the direction of the N1 road. The farmers succeeded in apprehending the suspects.

Police later arrived on the scene and the two suspects were taken for medical treatment. One suspect apparently died the same night in a hospital in Parys. The other suspect died on Thursday morning in a Bloemfontein hospital.

According to the source, the four farmers were arrested on Thursday afternoon on a charge of murder. They appeared in the Parys Magistrate’s Court on Friday. Their bail application was postponed to Tuesday for further investigation and they remain in custody.

Const. Mosili Ntsika, a police spokesman in the Free State, told Maroela Media she was aware of the incident, but the Hawks handled the matter. Brig. Hangwani Mulaudzi Hawks spokesman, could not provide any further details about the incident because they haven’t received information from the police yet.
