Farm attack suspect arrested, works at SAPS

Two suspects were arrested in connection with a farm attack in Coligny on the N12 outside Potchefstroom.

Peet Nortjè (67) was attacked and beaten on his farm in Coligny by two men. Around 16:47 on Wednesday, July 15, 2015, two of the workers were overpowered and tied in an office by four suspects. Then they forced Nortjè into the house and assaulted him.

According to warrant officer, Mpho Manyoba, police spokesperson, Nortjè’s neighbor helped him. His hands were tied with wire and there was blood everywhere on the scene.

The police’s tactical response unit was called, after which two of the suspects were arrested near Potchefstroom.

The other two suspects are still at large.

According to Manyoba they are 30 and 31 years old respectively. It is also confirmed that one of the suspects is an administrative clerk in the service of the Madibogo police station.

“The police now have to look for suspects in their own ranks. How should the public know who’s wolf and who’s shepherd? It is getting an increasing priority for communities to safeguard themselves,” said Ian Cameron, Head of Community Safety of AfriForum.
