Survives stabbing: Metrorail machinist Etienne Jordaan 60, survives attack by 17-year-old Parow Western Cape South Africa

Jordaan was stabbed three times in his chest with his own scissors, penetrating one lung and his chest. The 17-year-old attacked Mr Jordaan while he was asleep at around 03h30 in his Parow, West Cape home. He said he became embroiled in a life-and-death struggle during which he managed to ward off the vicious stabbings by the youth.

He told Die Burger daily newspaper that the attack in his bedroom on Tuesday May 6 2014 clearly was intended to kill him. He said as he got up at 03h30am when his alarm woke him up to go to work, he was attacked ‘as I put my feet on the ground, getting out of bed.’

He stepped on a human being, he said – and the male attacked him with what he later realized was his own scissors, which had been on his bedside table.

“I knew I had to fight back because he was going to kill me, he said from his hospital bed. His bedroom walls, his bed, bedside tables, wardrobe and floor were coated in blood but he eventually managed to bring the young to the floor and sat on him, shouting for help. His attacker told him: ‘the big man is in the bedroom and he is going to kill you.’ I replied: ‘he better come but first I will ‘make you vrek’ myself…’. The threat from the youngster was unfounded: he was alone.

And while Jordaan sat on his assailant, bleeding heavily, the attacker also loudly started screaming for help.

This went on for about ten minutes until his neighbours responded and rushed to help him. Jordaan drove himself to the Tygerberg hospital – and only then did he realize the seriousness of the wounds he sustained during the fight. “They just would not stop bleeding,’ he said. He thanked the SAPS and the hospital personnel for their help. SAPS spokesman lt. Col Andrè Traut confirmed that the 17-year-old male was arrested.
